As we drove through Red Cloud, I noticed the
Willa Cather Museum
& stopped to take a picture. When I turned around I saw the building above.
In April, 1997, my friend Harold & I travelled through Kansas.  I was seeking out certain Richardsonian Romanesque buildings in the state.  Along the way we noticed the buildings on this page.  The common theme is that they all have corner entrances.  We speculated about the origins of such a style.  My copy of the Guide to Kansas Architecture (by David H. Sachs & George Ehrlich) did not say.  If you know how this feature came to be (and/or you have similar buildings in your part of the country) please e-mail me.  We'd be interested in hearing what you know.
